So how's the hunting at Rockin Roosters? Check back here for updates.
Opening weekend 10-17,18-09
Hunted Saturday and Sunday the opening weekend with a party of 13. Birds
are abundant, cover is also. Crop harvest has been delayed in nearly all of South Dakota due to wet conditions. Most birds
are in the unharvested milo - we had the best luck hunting across the rows with mostly walkers and a few blockers. Our CRP
and dams areas were good, but will improve after harvesting begins. We hunted only 10 percent of available acres and everyone
took home as many birds as they wanted, within legal limits.
Week two - Through 10-24
Had a group of nine out Friday. They had good luck but it took a while for them to get a limit due to extensive cover.
All milo is still in the field, however the neighbors were combining corn which can only help us.
Birds are still in
the milo fields and walking these briskly in a half moon arc (across the rows and into the wind, preferably) seems to produce
well.
I went out seperate from the group with my dog and it took me about fifteen minutes to bag a limit of roosters
walking a fenceline. Would have been quicker, had it not been for the missed shots.
Looking forward to smoked pheasant
this week!
Just a few photos from this past weekend. Our hunting group was shy so I didn't include them, but you can see a few
of our hunting areas, one of which is a Cabela's Trophy Property, my dog Sadie and our new sign. Beautiful fall weather
today, hopefully harvest will start - it will only make the hunting better!
